Pirate for a night

So my plans to start the mural went out the window pretty quickly. Baby Kay decided it would be a great idea to fling her hands in the air and scratch my eye ball. If you've ever had your eye scratched, you know how much it hurts. So I somehow got Katie to bed and fed. Brad came over and watched Katie while Vic drove me to emerge. I ended up with a tetanus shot, eye drops and an eye patch. I bummed around the house and complained all day yesterday. Today my eye feels significantly better. It's a little bit blurry,  but it doesn't hurt anymore. Let's see how far I can get on the mural today!

Katie's Big girl room Part 1

This used to be the guest room

So far we've taken down the pictures, hooks, shelves and mirror.

We've filled the holes, sanded and primed them

And the walls have all been painted a really nice green :)

We're going to be building a loft bunk bed and a single twin bed, to have an L shaped bunk bed. We decided to do the beds this way, because it's a lower ceiling and this will give us more head room with shorter bunks. The black dresser is going to be stripped and painted white, along with the beds. Where the mirror was hung, we'll be building a storage bench with cushions, which will also be painted white. Hopefully we'll be able to incorporate a small book shelf and a light into the same corner. This little nook will serve as a reading corner.The wall to the right of the window is where the mural will be going, which should look something like this...

Hopefully i'll have it sketched and start the painting tonight!

Projects

In three weeks, my mom, sister and niece are coming to visit for a week. Originally I had thought they would be here in May and that I would have plenty of time to get the house ready. Since they will be here sooner than expected, we have alot to accomplish in a short time. My project list is as follows:

• clean basement room
• replace old trim in basement room
• remove all drywall tape on walls and sand
• Mud tape and sand that room
• prime and paint walls
• steam clean carpets
• set up basement room as a guest/craft room
• paint baby K's "big girl" room
• paint mural on wall
• build bunk beds
• build seat bench with cushions
• sand down dresser and paint white

For some reason my husband seems to think I set my expectations too high.

April showers bring May flowers...

It's January in Cold Lake Alberta. It should be -40, not 3 and raining.
